Business Philosophy
We believe that the establishment of an operating entity, whether large or small, virtual or hypothetical, is firstly and foremost a creative endeavor, in origin not dissimilar from the inspirational impulses that drive the arts of writing, music, painting or sculpture.
All draw on the vision, organization and stylistic sensibility of the creator or founder as well as a certain parcel of savvy acumen of clever observations regarding the use of space and the interest in which the creative endeavor will function and/or operate. The creator or founder must construct and de-construct the mechanism of operation revising his/her premise and factor every considerable variable...never loosing sight of the bottom line.
Whether or not the mechanism succeeds in operation may have to do with variables which are not controllable by the founder, such as; public taste, shifts in marketing, or general fluctuations in economic patterns, but if the mechanism functions properly the operation will self-continue.
Preservation is the primary goal of any and all organizations, whether they are representative of the individual creator, or of a social, political, religious or business structure.
Thus, even if an organization accrues no liquid net in the course of it's operation it is successful in this regard, and may move forward, freeing the founder/creator to strategically reconsider the altering or expansion of the primary structure or the complete divergence or conception of a new entity wherein the creator/founder can further express him or herself.
This is the goal of all creators and business founders. Like a parent, the entity, the artwork, what have you, must be able to function on it's own with (eventual) little direct operation and "interference" from the founding impulse, yet, ideally, the vision and protocols of the creator will be strong enough to guide the premise forward nonetheless.
Considerations such as the time=money paradigm are irrelevant, as are the physical participation of the founder in the daily operation of the business, barring during its infancy or as a positive example of the mechanism in practice for the benefit of paid employees.
If the mechanism functions properly, it will allow, and even encourage, individual employees to contribute to the day-to-day operation of the entity, and they in turn will draw reciprocal monetary and emotional benefit from the success of the mechanism.
A salesman is best motivated not by salary or commission alone, but by a sympathetic relationship and investment in the philosophy and vision that fired the creative process that drove the founder to conceive of the entity in the first place.
By extension, this makes the invested employee not just dependant on the entity in regard to the monetary employer-employee monetary paradigm, it allows he or she to share in the organic creative process of an evolving creative endeavor that is the operating business entity mechanism not dissimilar to the role of an artist's apprentice.
One business (though a public company) in which this paradigm is beheld and plied is in the Apple stores; whose retail store staff have exponentially rocketed their parent company to higher earnings four years running...an ironic fact since Apple could easily stand as a completely on-line endeavor.
We believe that the establishment of this paradigm is more fluid in privately held businesses and that, regardless of the lucrative allure that IPO's offer, they are all eventually doomed to creative atrophy. It is clear, or at least should be, that small businesses are responsible for the infrastructure of American, if not Global economy.
Therefore, as a philosophic tenet, we are opposed to the hegemony of the select few big-box deep-discount retailers, which we hold as close to criminally responsible (if not Karmically) in regard to the destruction they have intentionally caused in the retail marketplace. There are those who would have us believe that this is merely a case of economic Darwinism, however, we believe that such destructive intention is philosophically pre-meditated and works contrary to the betterment of the business environment and our human culture. A field of crop burnt due to a bolt of lightning is surely Darwinism…your neighbor lighting it on fire with a can of gasoline is quite another matter.
