Forthcoming Manuscripts
(Due to pending copyrights the working titles of certain manuscripts have been intentionally omitted.)
With plot and storyline mapped through the sixth novel, the manuscript of the second book in the “The Forest Kingdom of Drisnia” series; “The Dowry Voyage”, stands well under way. In this installment the focus shifts from that of the heroic journeys of the Prince and his closest male compatriots to that of the Princess; who gains a mentor and grows from the passive heroine and fish-out-of-water character to that of a mature woman and an able monarch. Figured mainly in a naval setting, this “epic fantasy” introduces new “exotic” locales and a coterie of unrelentingly disreputable knaves in a C.S. Forester vein.
Lingering at mid-point, the manuscript for a "novel of deadly intentions" in classic murder mystery style is set primarily in the politically charged atmosphere of 1972 Milan Italy. Police inspectore Aurelio Chiara and his partner Franco are charged to investigate the death by poisoning of well-known, and equally disliked Milanese businessman with problematic criminal and political associations; Pietro Alessi. Suspects abound in this suspicion-laden reality as a lifelong nemesis, wronged family members and the workings of parties competing in the hotly contested general election come to a head.
Actively and substantially into the narrative phase is a science-fiction that could be generally categorized as falling into the “space opera” genre…albeit with a large dollop of both hard reality and Sumerian mythology enveloping the superstructure of the storyline. Based on an earlier short story entitled “La Gardenia Chocolate” the work has mutated in revision and has expanded accordingly. In the far future…or is it distant past?…the feature players of a multi-national space-faring crew are on the trail of a planet that boasts a large enough quantity of life sustaining water to support colonization, or exportation to their rapidly de-hydrated civilization. However, an unexpected accident initiates a dramatic re-writing of the natural history of the universe and the crew’s role in the act of destruction…or creation. Tough decisions will have to be made…but by who is the pressing question as old national divisions rear up and propel the protagonists and antagonists inexorably toward an unavoidable mutiny.
The second book in a series of three and the sequel to the “Albigensian Seed”, “The Flower of Gaillac” (and the Impenitent Raven) is currently in the structuring phase. Based on the "found diary" of the prominent “Delphine” character, this first-person account chronicles her early life in medieval Provence and her initiation into the loyalist hierarchy residing in the Cathar dominated city of Albi is a visceral feminine counterpart to the first installment. In some sense a “coming of age family saga”, Delphine, or rather Marie, as she was known as a young girl, is forced to come to grips with the severe life changes she experiences due to both circumstances as well as the addictive compulsions that the hemorrhagic virus re-writing her gene triggers has thrust upon her.
Currently in the research and partial narrative stage, Mr. Rosenblum has begun work on a historical fiction in the “western” category. The novel, set in and near the Montana territory in the year 1863 features a young man who, though born to a respected settler family, has forsaken his gentile roots in search of an honorable path and destiny in the new western frontier. In spite of this, in the course of his travels he instead falls in, and later, out of favor, with an unsavory lot of outlaws who are financed not only by the rewards of their nefarious activities, but are also legitimatized by the corrupt law enforcement who ply them for their own benefit and ruthlessly remove any persons impeding their dominance in the region.
